Five Valentine’s gifts with a personal touch
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, nothing says ‘I love you’ quite like an original, handmade gift. Here’s some of our favourite ideas for a gift your Valentine will treasure forever…
Personalised gift boxes
Christmas 2017 saw a surge in the popularity of Christmas Eve boxes – a trend which can be easily replicated for a thoughtful Valentine’s gift. There’s so much choice when it comes to the box itself – you could try a plain wooden box which you can personalise with pyrography or stick on accessories, or a simple cardboard box wrapped in pretty paper. For a rustic shabby chic look you could try an old vintage advertising box which are very easy to find, and look great around the house as a lasting storage solution.
Fill your gift box with Valentine’s treats and show them how well you know them with all their favourite things - chocolates, wine, bath bombs, a book or film, tickets to something special…the opportunities are endless.
Handmade beer caddy
If your loved one loves beer, this could be the perfect gift. Impress them with your crafting skills and fill it with all their favourite ales for a perfect personalised gift that will go down a treat.

Driftwood heart art
Driftwood art is a hot trend at the moment, but you can end up spending a fortune on something which is actually very quick and easy to make at home! Driftwood collected from a favourite beach can give this gift a very personal touch. Gather as much as possible so you have lots of shapes, sizes and colours to choose from.
All you need to get started is a backing board – which can be wood or foam, and your driftwood collection. Draw a heart shape on to the board and cut this out before trimming your driftwood in to smaller pieces and arranging them on the backing. Once you’re happy, start glueing the driftwood in to place using a hot glue gun. Don’t forgot to attach a loop or a hanger on the back to help you display this.
If your Valentine is a keen gardener, why not give them a gift that will last in the form of a personalised planter. An old wooden crate is all you need for this – sand down any rough edges and paint it in the colour of your choice, before stencilling on a message. It’s a good idea to line it with plastic and drill in a few drainage holes to avoid waterlogging. Then either let them plant it up or fill it with their favourite flowers or shrubs for a gift that will last throughout the year.
Surprise your other half with a thoughtful photo gallery of memorable moments and give your home a unique and personal touch. With most photographs stored digitally these days why not pick some favourites to print and choose some nice frames. Whether you like them neatly aligned or completely random, put some thought in to your display and make them smile whilst creating a great piece of wall art!
