A modern room partition: a miracle cure for any small living room

You need: YOUseries Drill, YOUseries Vac, YOUseries Sanding Paper, YOUseries Dust Extractor, squared timbers

For this partition, you’ll need to saw the squared timbers to two different lengths. We recommend asking staff at your local DIY store to cut these to the required lengths for you.

Then, sand all the edges and rough points – paying particular attention to the sawn edges – with the YOUseries Sander. If you like, you can use the YOUseries Vac together with the Dust Extractor to avoid sawdust making a mess.

You need: YOUseries Drill, Countersink bit, Countersink Bit Set 3 Pieces, YOUseries Bit and Drill Set, g-clamps, ruler, pencil

It’s now time to drill holes at the points where the screws will be inserted later. However, before you begin drilling, we recommend that you arrange the wooden slats on the floor of a large room corresponding to their final, assembled position so that you keep track of what you have done.

Start with the squared timbers – they will form the frame of the room partition. Take the shorter squared timbers, lie them on their wider side and drill two holes at the same height at both ends of each of them. These holes should be 170 mm away from the bottom edge and 150 mm from their respective side edges. Use a size-4 drill bit.

You should adjust the drilled holes with a countersink so that the heads of the screws don’t stick out. Do this by switching the wood drill bit for a countersink and using it to slightly widen the holes so that the screw head sits flush with the surrounding material. Make sure that you use the countersink on the correct side of the drill hole so that the heads of the screws are on the outside after you have assembled your room partition.

You need: YOUseries Drill, Countersink bit, g-clamps

The next step is to mark the positions for the drill holes where the inner wooden slats are going to be screwed in later. This is important for making sure the vertical and horizontal slats move past each other cleanly. Take hold of the shorter squared timbers once again and mark a position in the middle (625 mm) that is 150 mm away from either side edge. Make sure that the positions on the short squared timbers will be directly opposite one another once you put the frame together.

Then, mark the positions for the drill holes for the two horizontal slats on the longer squared timbers. They should be 600 mm and 1,200 mm in height at a length of 2,400 mm. The drill holes should again be 150 mm away from one of the two side edges. If you have chosen the front side edge for the vertical slats, then choose the back side edge for the horizontal slats. You should again widen the drilled holes with a countersink .

You need: paint roller, black wood paint

Now apply black wood paint to all four sides of the wooden slats. Leave each side long enough to dry before you move on to the next one.

You need: YOUseries Drill, YOUseries Bit and Drill Set, g-clamps, 28 black screws (4.2 x 70 mm)

Now that all the preparations are complete, it’s time to start using the YOUseries Drill. You should countersink 14 screws in every frame, otherwise you have missed a drill hole somewhere.

You need: YOUseries Drill, YOUseries Bit and Drill Set, g-clamps, two hinges, 12 screws (4 x 30 mm)

Finally, connect the two halves of the room partition using two hinges. To do this, lie the two frames next to each other and line them up. To make sure its appearance is even, the bottom end of the bottom hinge should be 66 cm away from the floor and the top end of the top hinge should be 660 mm away from the top end of the room partition. Each hinge requires six small screws.

There is probably going to be a lot of sawdust swirling around your living room once you’re finished with this project. The YOUseries Vac will make it all disappear in no time at all.
