Cleaning with the power of water
A portable pressure washer is an asset to any household. It cleans deeper and faster, and also saves more water than other methods.
There’s a reason why German tech giants Bosch have their products shipped all over the world. Now good quality technology can be found even in your nearest home store, so if you’re wondering which pressure washer to buy, why not go for a Bosch electric power washer?
Questions & Answers
Electric pressure washers are equipped with a special pump that applies significant amounts of pressure to the water passing through. This creates a concentrated, powerful jet out the nozzle, which enables thorough cleaning. High pressure washers generally use an external power supply and water connection. Bosch's Aquatak high pressure washers can be used with both cold and hot water up to 40°C.
Sometimes, compact devices with water tanks and batteries are also called high pressure washers. In fact, they are more accurately categorised as low or medium pressure washers, as they operate at a lower pressure. They are well suited for light cleaning tasks and portable use.
Top tip: the moisture on floors left by high pressure cleaning is most easily removed with a wet and dry vacuum cleaner.
Electric high pressure washers can be used in many different ways. They carefully and efficiently remove dirt from garden furniture, bins, bicycles, cars, and other vehicles, and can remove algae and moss from walls, patios, or footpaths. Handheld power washers can also be used on windowpanes to ensure a streak-free shine. For larger areas and more stubborn dirt, we recommend models with a higher pressure and water delivery rate.
Special attachments and nozzles for pressure washers allow certain areas to be cleaned even more efficiently – depending on the area of application. For example, a rotor nozzle, a patio cleaner, a cleaning set for washing cars or a suction nozzle for removing larger quantities of water help your pressure washer to perform at its best.
A pressure washer’s power and cleaning ability depends mainly on the delivery pressure (measured in bar) and the flow rate (measured in litres per hour). The higher the pressure and the greater the volume of water through the hose, the better the cleaning performance.
This depends on what you want to use it for. For everyday cleaning work, small and compact pressure washers are usually perfect for your home. They should operate at a pressure of between 100 and 120 bar, and have a maximum water flow rate of 350 l/h.
If more power is required, devices with a pressure of 125 bar and a delivery rate of 360 l/h are available. Very powerful pressure washers, which are suitable for longer-lasting jobs, larger areas, and particularly stubborn dirt, have a pressure of 140 to 160 bar and a water delivery rate of 450 to 570 l/h.
The water consumption of a high pressure washer is determined by the flow rate, which is usually measured in litres per hour. Depending on the model, Bosch high pressure washers have a flow rate of between 270 and 570 l/h. For comparison, an average garden hose has a flow rate of around 1,080 l/h, according to the European Environment Agency.
Only metal pumps are used for the Aquatak high pressure washers from Bosch. Not only are they more durable and robust than plastic pumps, they are also easier to repair, saving you valuable money and resources.
For most household uses, cold or room temperature water in a high pressure washer is sufficient. Our models perform well even with cold water, require little energy, and are easy to maintain. But if you want to increase the cleaning performance, Bosch high pressure washers can be operated with hot water up to 40°C.
Hot water pressure washers, on the other hand, have a built-in boiler that allows them to heat the water up to 155°C. The high temperatures mean both the pressure and the cleaning agents can be reduced.
However, hot water pressure washers can cause burns! What’s more, they are quite expensive. Anyone wanting to buy a hot water, power washer faces high purchase costs, not to mention the huge energy costs in running the device. As such, they are mainly used in the commercial sector.
Bosch pressure washers can be hooked up to external water sources such as rainwater tanks. The easiest way to do this is with the practical Aquatak self-priming kits. You can also connect the pressure washer to a regular garden hose using a coupling.
A high pressure washer does not require cleaning agents, because the powerful water jet is often enough to loosen even the most stubborn dirt. However, the use of a mild cleaning agent can certainly speed up the cleaning process. Our Bosch high pressure washers are specially designed with a nozzle that facilitates the application and use of cleaning agents.
The two integrated water filters protect the high pressure washer from dirt and grime, and thus ensures a longer service life. In the Bosch catalogue, they can be found among the filters and adapters for pressure washers.
Like all other electrical appliances, the pressure washer should be stored in a cool, dry place, where it will not be subjected to frost. There is a risk, particularly in winter, that leftover water in the pump may freeze and cause damage to the pressure washer. It is therefore advisable to empty the high pressure washer completely, and well in advance of the cold season.
