Air pumps and tyre inflators
Bosch cordless tyre inflators and air pumps replace the effort of manual pumping with fast, precise, battery-powered inflation. From topping up a bicycle or car tyre at home to blowing up an air mattress at a campsite, the Bosch DIY portfolio covers every need.
What are air pumps and tyre inflators used for?
Bosch air pumps and tyre inflators are suitable for any task involving inflating tyres, sports equipment, or large leisure inflatables. Inflation tasks fall into two broad categories:
High-pressure inflation covers applications that need air to be delivered at a precise, high PSI level:
- Topping up car, motorcycle, and bicycle tyres
- Inflating sports balls
- Pumping up pushchair wheels and other small, high-pressure items
High-volume inflation covers large items that need a significant amount of air at low pressure, quickly:
- Inflating air mattresses
- Filling inflatable boats, paddling pools, and pool toys
- Rapidly deflating large inflatables for compact storage
Some Bosch tools handle both task categories in a single device, including the PAO 18V dual-function air compressor, making them a highly versatile addition to any home toolkit.
Types of air pumps and tyre inflators
Inflation tools come in manual, corded, and cordless formats. Manual pumps require no power source but demand significant physical effort and offer little pressure control. Corded electric pumps deliver continuous power, though a trailing cable limits where the task can be performed.
The entire Bosch DIY portfolio is cordless, combining the power of electric tools with the freedom to work anywhere – no cable, no socket required. The Bosch range spans two battery types:
1. 18V POWER FOR ALL ALLIANCE – powerful and versatile
The 18V POWER FOR ALL ALLIANCE platform is the most powerful option in the Bosch air pump range, designed for demanding tasks and extended use. The 18V tools include the EasyInflate 18V-500, UniversalPump 18V, and PAO 18V.
These tools share a battery with a wide range of Bosch garden and power tools, as well as products from other Alliance partner brands. This eliminates the need for separate battery systems and saves money and storage space. For extended sessions, runtime is easily topped up with a spare charged battery or a quick recharge between tasks.
2. 4V exchangeable battery – compact and portable
The PNEO runs on a compact, 4V exchangeable battery, designed with portability in mind — lightweight and always ready to go. It is ideal for quick, on-the-go inflation tasks and fits easily in a car boot or a cycling bag.
Key features of Bosch air pumps and tyre inflators
Choosing the right tool starts with understanding a few key specifications. Each one has a direct impact on what the tool can do and how well it performs for a given task.
Inflation type
The most important characteristic of any air pump or inflator is whether it is built for high pressure, high volume, or both:
- High-pressure pumps are designed for tyres and sports balls and deliver air at a precise, pre-set pressure
- High-volume inflators are designed for airbeds, pools, and large inflatables, moving large amounts of air quickly
- Dual-function tools are capable of handling both, with no need for two separate devices
Selecting the wrong tool for the task will lead to disappointing results. A high-pressure pump, for example, will likely do a bad job of filling an airbed.
Maximum pressure (Bar / PSI)
Maximum pressure, measured in bar or PSI (pounds per square inch), determines what a pump can inflate. Bosch high-pressure pumps reach up to 10.3 bar (150 PSI), covering everything from car and motorcycle tyres to high-pressure road bike tyres, making a visit to the petrol station forecourt entirely optional and turning every tool into a Bosch electric bike pump.
Airflow rate (litres per minute)
Airflow rate, measured in litres per minute (L/min), determines how quickly a high-volume inflator can fill large items. The higher the rate, the faster the job. Bosch high-volume inflators reach up to 500 L/min, meaning an air mattress that might take many exhausting minutes by hand can be filled in just a couple of minutes effortlessly.
Auto-stop function and digital pressure gauge
Many Bosch pumps feature a digital display showing the current pressure reading in real time and an auto-stop function that allows a target pressure to be pre-set. Once the target is reached, the tool stops automatically, eliminating the risk of over-inflation and the need for a separate pressure gauge. This is especially useful for tyre maintenance, where precise pressure has a direct impact on safety, fuel economy, and tyre wear.
Deflation function
The dedicated deflation port found on high-volume inflators and dual-function tools is just as useful as the inflation function. Connecting the hose to this port reverses the airflow direction, actively extracting air from large inflatables instead of pushing it in. With this function, an airbed or paddling pool takes just a matter of minutes to deflate, making packing up as fast as setting up for anyone who regularly uses camping or leisure inflatables.
Cordless power system
All tools in the Bosch DIY air pump category are cordless, running on either the 18V POWER FOR ALL ALLIANCE or the compact 4V exchangeable battery. Both eliminate the need for a power outlet and allow inflation tasks to be completed anywhere.
Choosing the right air pump or tyre inflator
The five tools in the Bosch air pump range each serve a distinct purpose. The table below shows which is designed for what:
| Model | Type | Max Pressure / Airflow | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| PNEO | High-pressure pump | Up to 10.3 bar (150 PSI) | Car tyres, bike tyres, sports balls |
| UniversalPump 18V | High-pressure pump | Up to 10.3 bar (150 PSI) | Car, motorcycle, and bike tyres |
| EasyInflate 18V-500 | High-volume inflator | Up to 500 L/min | Air mattresses, paddling pools, inflatable boats |
| PAO 18V | Dual-function | Both high pressure and high volume | All-in-one: tyres, balls, and large inflatables |
