Cutting the worktop with a jigsaw

New kitchen? Want to cut your worktop? Or saw a recess out of the worktop? No problem! In our instructions, we show you how you can do both quickly and easily. We also give you tips on what you should pay particular attention to. This makes it very easy to cut your worktop to size.
Have you discovered our 18-volt system yet? It incorporates lots of tools for a wide range of applications. The project also offers a special feature: You can use all of the applications with the same battery. Simply remove the battery, plug it into another device in the system and move on to the next step.
Of course, with every step you must pay particular attention to your safety and take certain precautions to keep safe. See our overview for the appropriate protective clothing for all applications.
Let's go - step by step

Removing the battery
We'll show you how to use a jigsaw to make a cut-out which is the perfect fit for your sink. To do this, you must first measure the sink. Note: Measure the inner distance at the edge. This is because the sink needs to fit into the cut-out later, but resting on top.
Transferring the dimensions to the worktop
Now place the kitchen worktop on trestles or on your work surface, and think carefully about where the sink should sit. Then transfer the measurements from step 1 to the worktop (fig. 1). To ensure that all of the cutting lines are straight, use a straight piece of wood as a ruler (fig. 2).
Drilling the holes
Are all lines or the square drawn? Then drill a hole at each of the four corners, on the inner edge of the cutting line. The wood drill bit should be larger than the saw blade you will use later to saw out the wooden part. This allows you to use the holes to "plunge cut" into the piece of wood with the saw blade. Also be sure to secure the worktop well using G-clamps before drilling.
As an alternative to the drill and jigsaw, a NanoBlade saw is also suitable for this step. A NanoBlade saw can be used both to plunge cut into the worktop and to saw out the square.
Inserting a suitable saw blade
To cut out your worktop, it is best to use a saw blade for particularly precise cuts and insert it into the jigsaw. There is also a handy overview of all Bosch saw blades and their application ranges. We also explain how to correctly change the saw blade correctly.
Cutting out the worktop
You can now use the pre-drilled holes from step 3 to plunge the saw blade and make a straight cut. Set the saw for each straight line and saw without pressure along the marked lines until you have cut out the square.
Inserting the sink
If you have measured correctly and sawn cleanly, the sink should now fit exactly into the sawn cut-out and rest on the edges. Before you use it, however, it is worth impregnating the cutting edges. This protects them from moisture. To connect a drain or a water tap, please consult a specialist.
So the indoor kitchen is ready to go, but you're still in the mood for more? Why not start a new project with an outdoor kitchen with a built-in barbecue or a mud kitchen for the kids ?
