Introduction

Does your living room need a new coat of paint? It doesn’t always have to be the whole room. Even smaller accents using colours and shapes can make a big impact. We’ll show you how to easily build a modern wall accent yourself and what you should bear in mind.

Have you heard about our 18-volt system yet? It offers a huge variety of devices for many different applications. The thing that makes the project below so special is that you can use the same rechargeable battery for every part of this project. Simply swap out the battery pack, insert it into a different device that’s part of the 18-volt system and move on to the next step.

It should go without saying that your safety is paramount throughout every step of the project, so make sure you take the necessary precautions to protect yourself. You can find an overview of the correct protective clothing you need when using each type of tool here:

You need
  • pencil
  • paint roller or paintbrush
  • paint roller with tray
  • protective goggles
  • ear protection
  • Wall paint
  • Masking tape (normal and elastic)
  • 3 shelf boards/shelving unit
  • Pushpin/nail
  • String/cord
  • Suitable wall plugs
  • Matching screws
  • Wall mounts

Let's go - step by step

Step 1 8

Measuring the shelf boards

Lengths for the individual shelf boards are being measured using the tape adapter of the Bosch Zamo.

You need: Zamo laser measure, Tape adapter for Bosch Zamo, 3 shelf boards

Have you got everything you need? Then let’s get started. First measure the length of the shelf board to determine how wide the wall accent should be. To do this, position the Zamo at the edge of the shelf board and use the tape adapter to measure the length of the board. Make a note of the measurements. You will need these again in step three.

Step 2 8

Positioning the wall accent

A Bosch Quigo is being used to project a green laser cross line onto a wall.
A Bosch Quigo is being used to project a green laser cross line onto a wall. A person can be seen adhering masking tape to the wall along the vertical laser line of the Bosch Quigo.

You need: Quigo Green cross line laser, Books or similar objects, Masking tape

The wall accent will be positioned in the next step. This is where the Quigo Green comes into play: you can mark the lower left corner of the wall accent with the laser cross line of the Quigo. We recommend using a small stack of books to reach the desired height of the Quigo as this is very close to the floor. Now place the laser device on the books and align it.

Then use masking tape to mark the position of the bottom and left edges of the wall accent. Use the horizontal and vertical laser cross lines of the Quigo Green as a guide.

Step 3 8

Preparing the wall accent

Masking tape can be seen on a wall. A person can be seen using the tape adapter of the Bosch Zamo to mark distances on masking tape.
A person can be seen using the line adapter of the Bosch Zamo to mark distances on a wall.

You need: Zamo laser measure, Tape adapter for Bosch Zamo, Line adapter for Bosch Zamo, Masking tape

Now define the height and width of your wall accent. To do so, you will need the length of your shelf boards that you measured in step one. In our case, it is 90 centimetres. Position the Zamo at the bottom left corner on the inside edge of the masking tape and measure a distance of 90 centimetres to the right with the tape adapter. Use a pencil to mark the point.

Now remove the tape adapter and position the Zamo on top part of the left piece of masking tape. Measure the distance from the top of the masking tape to the floor, which is a height of 157 centimetres in our case. Use a pencil to mark the point. You will need these later to make the arc of the wall accent.

Step 4 8

Positioning the wall accent

A Bosch Quigo is being used to project a green laser cross line onto a wall. A strip of masking tape is on the wall.
The laser lines help you position the wall accent exactly where you want it.
A Bosch Quigo is being used to project a green laser cross line onto a wall. A person can be seen adhering masking tape to the wall along the horizontal laser line.
The laser lines help you position the wall accent exactly where you want it.

You need: Quigo Green cross line laser, Tripod, Masking tape

In this step, the Quigo Green is used to position the top horizontal and right vertical edge of the wall accent. First, mount the Quigo Green cross line laser to a tripod. Then position it so that the laser cross lines indicate the height of 157 centimetres measured in step three. This point forms the upper right corner of the wall accent.

Then use masking tape to mark the position of the upper and right edges of the wall accent. Use the horizontal and vertical laser cross lines of the Quigo Green as a guide.

Step 5 8

Preparing the wall accent

Masking tape can be seen on a wall. A person can be seen using the tape adapter of the Bosch Zamo to mark distances on masking tape.
Masking tape can be seen on a wall. A person can be seen using a string compass to draw an arc on the wall above the masking tape.
An arc is visible on a wall. A person can be seen adhering elastic masking tape along the arc drawn in a pencil.

You need: Quigo Green cross line laser, Tripod, Zamo laser measure, Tape adapter for Bosch Zamo, pencil, Masking tape, String/cord, Pushpin/nail

Now draw the arc at the top. To do so, first position the Zamo at the previously measured height of 157 centimetres on the left piece of masking tape and measure a distance of 45 centimetres to the right with the tape adapter along the laser line. In our case, half the length of the shelf board is 45 centimetres, which when doubled is 90 centimetres, also corresponding to the width of the wall accent (in our case). This value of 45 centimetres gives us the radius of the arc. Use a pencil to mark the point.

We make a small string compass to draw the arc cleanly. To do so, attach a nail or pushpin to the wall at the 45-centimetre mark. Then tie a pencil to the end of a 45-centimetre-long thread and attach it again to the nail in the wall. Now you can draw an arc from left to right. The arc starts at the piece of masking tape on the left and ends at the piece on the right.

You should mark the arc you just drew with elastic masking tape so you can paint the surface area of the wall accent in the next step.

Step 6 8

Painting the wall accent

The outline of an archway is visible on a white wall. A person can be seen using pastel green paint to fill in the shape.

You need: paint roller with tray, Farbwanne, Wall paint

Now you can fill in the surface area with the paint of your choice. Once the paint is dry, you can peel away the masking tape.

Step 7 8

Positioning the shelves

The Bosch Quigo is being used to project a green laser cross line on a section of a white wall that has been painted pastel green.

You need: Quigo Green cross line laser, Tripod, Zamo laser measure, Tape adapter for Bosch Zamo, pencil

The shelf boards are positioned at the desired height in this step. First, mount the Quigo Green cross line laser to a tripod. Adjust it so that the laser cross lines align horizontally. We recommend a distance of 30 to 35 centimetres between the shelves. This gives you enough space to place folders, plants or other larger items.

Now position the Zamo on the left edge of the wall accent and use the tape adapter to measure the distances for the drill holes along the horizontal laser line to the right. Use a pencil to mark each point. Repeat this step for all three shelf boards.

Step 8 8

Attaching the shelf boards

A person can be seen attaching three shelves to a wall.

You need: Cordless combi drill, 8 mm concrete drill bit, 3 shelf boards, Suitable wall plugs, Matching screws, Wall mounts

You’re nearly done! Now you can drill the holes and attach the wall mounts. Next, use the drill to drill holes in the spots you have marked on the wall. Then, sink a wall plug into each hole. You can now screw the wall mounts to the wall and position the shelf boards. Your modern-looking wall accent is finally ready!
